My Future in Fashion Design

One day last week while I was sketching my latest design in my sketch book, I had an eye opening revelation. That was the day that I made the appointment to visit the Academy of Design and Technology in Orlando.

I was sitting on the bench at the bus stop putting the finishing black and white stripes on my mock-neck halter top when this beautiful woman sat down beside me. We exchanged a cordial ‘hello’.

As I was almost done shading in the last black stripe, she said to me, “that is a very stylish top that you’ve drawn, what design firm do you work for?” With a surprised look on my face, I replied, “I work at the Mall at Millenia, here In Orlando.” She handed me her card, which had her name and the logo of a prestigious fashion design and merchandising firm, and said, “You should be working for me with that kind of talent, are you in college?” I lowered my head and said softly, “I can’t afford college.”

She looked me in the eyes and told me that her company hires most of their new employees who are graduates of a school called the Academy of Design and Technology in Orlando. She also said that they have a financial aid program that she thinks would be great for me.

Just as she was getting ready to get into her limo that had arrived, she said ‘You must have a good eye for fashion because stripes are going to be one of this summer’s hottest trends. You call me when you graduate and you will have a job.” I couldn’t stop smiling as I waved and thanked her.

Then I had realized something; I’ve been out of high school for two years and the thought of college never entered my mind because of family finances. This information could possibly change my life and tomorrow is my appointment to visit the campus. I can’t wait to begin my future in fashion design!
