Most people think of cruising the world, taking salsa classes, and enjoying a generally relaxed life, when they think about their golden years. I however, intend to ride off into my sunset years, with a college degree in hand.
At the age of 69, I must admit that I have had a fairly successful life. Financial problems prevented me from going to college in my youth, and I began working soon after high school. It’s all worked out great for me, and I ran my own successful business for many years before selling it off for a tidy profit last year. With enough funds in my retirement account, I can safely say that I have no worries about the future. But the one thing that I regret not having done in my life is getting a college education. With all my days free now, it seems like that time has finally come.
The town that we have decided to spend our retired life in, has no access to good colleges. My best option therefore would be to join one of the many online colleges that offer students like me a chance to earn their college degrees. I’ve looked up a few of them, and I have already decided on an online business degree. My wife is as excited as I am, and has plans to obtain a teaching degree.
They say you are never too old to learn, and I must say, that’s very true in my case!
When a lot of people think about business careers and the degrees they require, they think in terms of business degrees such as MBAs and management degrees. However, these are hardly the only — or even sometimes the best — way to go.
For instance, one degree that is very beneficial in the business world is a marketing degree. Business people and upper management always benefit greatly by having been educated in the principles of marketing. Luckily, these days you can get your marketing degree online, allowing you to keep working the same job with the same schedule while you earn your degree.
Another area of business that is immensely popular, but is growing so quickly that qualified workers are always in demand, is the information technology, or IT, field. IT people specialize in computers and computer technology, and are invaluable in today’s fast-paced, computer driven world. As with marketing degrees, it’s easy to get your IT degree online, making it easier than ever to advance your education and your career into something with great job security and pay!
When looking at business degrees and careers, don’t be limited by the mainstream, or more common, business degrees. Think outside the box and you’ll be sure to find yourself a great career!
The ability to instantaneously access large amounts of information on the internet has turned education on its ear. Those who graduate have the benefit of an education based on the newest information taught by instructors working in the very fields they teach. The internet has certainly improved education for the masses and continues to do so every day.
When wanting to break into a new field, individuals can get theonline bachelor degreethat will help themget their foot in the door with an employer. Those who are already in the workforce and are looking to earn more or breathe life into a dull and monotonous vocation now have the option of earning a graduate degree. More often than not, companies that offer tuition reimbursement for their employees greatly encourage online learning. This helps ensure students are getting the right education that will take them where they want to go with their current employer.
When you were applying to colleges, did you look at your community college options or skip straight to the four-year state and private schools that offer Bachelor’s Degrees from the get-go? If you went to a four-year school, you might have ended up regretting that you didn’t start at a community college. The community college provides many benefits to the student which makes it a wise choice for completing the initial stages of a degree.
Here are three reasons to start out at a community college:
It’s cheap. Why rack up loans to attend a big school when you can take all your general education classes at a community college for next-to-nothing.
The instructors care about you. Many people who attended both a community college and a state college say that they have only remained in touch with their community college professors.
It sets a realistic goal. You can get a two year degree so you have a goal to meet and a degree under your belt. Then you can go on to set a four year degree goal if you want to.
There are certainly benefits to attending a state college. However, you can achieve many of those same benefits by attending it for the last two years of your degree while reaping the benefits of community college first.
