My Sister-in-Law’s Career Crisis

My sister-in-law has decided that she doesn’t want to be a nurse anymore.

Granted, she didn’t have an easy time of it.  She had a lot of experience working in assisted living centers, and was having a hard time getting out of it.  She was pretty sick of changing old people’s diapers and lifting them in and out of bed.

I don’t blame her, in some respects.  It sounds like a pretty miserable job.  However, I personally thought it would be good to try to get into a different niche in the industry.  She likes children, so maybe working in a pediatrician’s office would have appealed to her.  Working in a hospital also would have been an improvement.

If she had decided to pursue another facet of her career, there are ways she could have gotten around her concentration of experience in elder care.  For example, there are many schools offering health care training programs that could have helped her break into another niche in the industry.  Sanford Brown Fenton offers several good programs that she might have been interested in.

School could help her break into another career, too, though.  She has considered cosmetology as an option.  Personally, though, I think she’d prefer a little more of a traditional office job, especially considering the really hard work she has done for the last 10 years.  There are many business administration programs and cosmetology programs around, so whatever she decides, she’ll have options!

Collins College and Other Film Schools

Students who daydream about making movies for a living often don’t realize that the first step they need to take is to get into a good film school. Although it is possible to just start making movies on your own, it’s highly unlikely that you’re going to make it in the film world without taking the classes necessary to learn the ins and outs of the film business.

Here’s a look at some of the best schools out there for people who want to make movies:

  • Collins College. The film and video production degree at this school will help you learn all of the ins and outs of making movies.
  • Brooks Institute photography school. This school is well-known as one of the leading schools for photography in the nation. It’s also got an awesome film program that can expose you to the creative people you need to know in the industry.
  • IADT Tampa. If you’re not quite sure that you want to make movies but you know that you want to pursue a creative degree, look at the digital film degree at this school. There are plenty of other creative degrees at this institution for those who decide film isn’t the right choice.

Making movies is going to require the skill to use today’s technology. It’s also going to require access to that technology. And it’s going to require you to network in the film industry. Going to film school can help you get all of those things.
