Do you Need Family Caregiver Training?

One of the blessings of the 21st Century is that people in the United States of America and other Western countries are living longer than ever before. That means we can all count on seeing our beloved parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and older friends for many years to come. But along with this happy benefit, come some additional problems, such as having to care these beloved elders when they become to week or infirm to perform some their own daily personal care tasks. So unless you’ve had training as a home care provider, you’ll probably need some kind of family caregiver training. This kind of training can help you learn how to administer medicines correctly, how to elder-proof your home to prevent falls and other accidents, how to safely transport the elderly to and from doctor’s visits and elsewhere, and all about the nutrition older adults need. No one is born knowing all of the aspects that go into caring for the elderly, but fortunately, there are many high-quality resources on the Internet and elsewhere that can enable younger family members to master the art of caring for elders in a safe and compassionate manner.

It Doesn’t Hurt to Ask!

Online courses allow you to study from any place, at any time.

Online courses allow you to study from any place, at any time.

Online educational programs are becoming more popular all the time, but that doesn’t mean they are currently being offered by all schools and in all subjects.  In fact, there are still many schools that have not yet caught on to the online ed bug that is currently sweeping the ‘Net.

My theory is, though, that it never hurts to ask.  If you are very interested in a certain school or a specific program, but you don’t see any online options, write to them and ask!  You may find out that they have plans for an online program and will be launching it soon, or that they have a telecommuting program and the instructor is willing to communicate via email.  At the very least you are showing interest in an online program, and that might make them consider offering one.

For instance, I was recently looking at the LEED exam prep program offered by Everblue.  Green building is a hot trend in areas like mine, where many businesses and individuals are starting to think more about how their life and business styles affect the environment.  Everblue reflects that popularity by offering their programs in many different cities, but I know that I work best online.  Luckily they do offer a form on their website where you can recommend that the program come to your city.  So why not suggest an online program?  I did!

How Do I Become a School Counselor?

As I’m about to enter my sophomore year of college, I’ve been giving a lot of thought as to what exactly I want to do with my life. And I think I’ve come to a conclusion. I want to be a school counselor.

Getting my school counseling degree would allow me to work a job that makes a positive impact on this world. Counselors at school played a huge part in turning me into the young man I am today. My high school counselor provided me with valuable advice and helped me prepare for college life and beyond.

I know my school offers counseling degrees, but I don’t know what all I need to do to become a school counselor. I wonder if it requires a master’s degree or if a bachelor’s degree will do.

Speaking of counselors, I guess I should probably visit mine up at college this week. I’m sure they can point me in the right direction to let me know what exactly I need to do to reach this goal.

I have to say that for the first time in my college life, I’m actually excited about going to school. It’s nice to have a sense of direction and purpose with your education.

A Taste of “A Taste of Freedom”

transitional audiology onlineHave you guys ever seen the Futurama episode “A Taste of Freedom“?  It’s from the fourth season, so you might not have caught it when it originally aired on FOX or when it was ridiculously overplayed 64 times on Adult Swim.

On the off chance that you haven’t been lucky enough to see this episode, I’ll summarize.  It all starts when Dr. Zoidberg, the kosher lobster who never finished his health sciences program, eats the official flag of Earth and gets sentenced to death.

Zoidberg ends up seeking refuge at his planet’s embassy, and the Earthicans try to forcibly extract him, which leads to a big, dramatic war between Earth and Decapod 10.  Fortunately, everyone’s favorite doctor still on the waiting list for the Arizona School of Health Sciences online programs finally had a change of hearts (he has three, remember) and saves our planet with a single, flaming Earthican flag.  It all ends with a feel-good shot of Zoidberg getting approval from the decapitated head of Richard Nixon to eat another Earthican flag.

It really is the best show on TV.  If you haven’t had a chance to see “A Taste of Freedom,” go out and buy the fourth season of Futurama right now.

A Law Degree is a Law Degree

My dad is a hotshot lawyer in New York somewhere; probably Manhattan.  All his life, he has said that as long as I go to law school, he will pay for my advanced college degree. However, if I choose to do something else, anything else, I am on my own.

Now, I am at the age where I could most certainly make my own choices and one choice I’ve made is this:  I choose to have someone else pay for my education….who am I kidding? School is not cheap.  Plus, I want to pursue law, so why not?

And so, I am pursuing a law degree online.  THIS is not acceptable to my father, who has antiquated views on how education should be provided. He remembers his law school, with it’s dark wood rooms and brooding, serious teachers.  He doesn’t believe I could get a “decent” law degree online until I showed him my curriculum.  Now he begrudgingly admits that my classes are harder than his!

And he’s paying for my school!  To me, a law degree is a law degree, right?
